2005: Motherload descends on Writers' Bloc

Photographs by Mel Bergman
In May, the month of Mother's Day, the front room at Writers'
Bloc witnessed the birth of a collaborative installation by two
local artists/mothers, Mel Bergman and Sue
Chenoweth.
Curated by studio member Deborah Sussman Susser,
Bergman and Chenoweth were giving a task: Create something mother-related
given too little space, too little time and too little money,
a concept familiar to most mothers. In response, Bergman and Chenoweth
teamed up to create a Malice in Wonderland environment
of giant pink vinyl doilies, little ceramic fires (like the ones
that mothers are always putting out) and arranged messes.
Sue Chenoweth is a former member of Eye Lounge and was recently
chosen by Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art Director Susan
Krane for a solo show at the Cue Foundation in New York City.
She teaches art at Metropolitan Arts Institute, a visual and performing
arts high school. Mel Bergman is Community Arts Coordinator for
the City of Glendale.
